ORGANIC VIBRATIONS

Artists: Danny Rose with Julia Gorman

Warm up with art this winter as Vivid Sydney lights up and the MCA stays up late until 9pm Wednesday–Sunday during the festival.

The façade of the MCA will illuminate, morph and abstract as handmade artwork flows and wraps the entire building as Vivid Sydney takes over Sydney from 26 May until 17 June.

Organic Vibrations is a collaboration between Julia Gorman, an Australian artist whose work is currently on display in the MCA’s Inside/Out Room, and Paris-based production company, Danny Rose. Together, they create a single, coherent artwork from the constant morphing and mutation of a series of images.

This year’s installation, developed specifically for Vivid Sydney in collaboration with the MCA, draws inspiration from the shapes and colours of the natural world, and is seen as sinuous lines that appear to grow organically until they cover the art deco facade of the Museum.

The installation uses projection-mapping techniques to transform the façade with images originally made by the artist in watercolour, oils and marker pen. This flow of handmade images, synthesised with music, creates a multi-sensory experience as the audience follows a 10-minute animated sequence of colour, movement and emotion.

Perch on the Sculpture Terrace , wind down over a drink, grab a bite to eat and enjoy spectacular views of the colour drenched Sydney Harbour.

Get comfortable with the uncomfortable as Conversation Starters invites you to ask hard questions about the world today on the first weekend in June as part of Vivid Ideas.

MCA exhibitions on display are MCA Collection (ongoing), The National 2017: New Australian Art (30 March – 18 June) and Kader Attia (12 April – 30 July).
