Press Releases – MCA Social calls for art-enthusiasts to support young artists

Posted on Sept. 6, 2016
The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia is set to host MCA Social, a fundraiser for arts-enthusiasts and young philanthropists on Saturday 24 September, and it’s all in the name of supporting the work of young Australian artists.

As one of the most vibrant contemporary art fundraising events of the year, MCA Social invites Sydney’s glitterati to come together in a night themed ‘All that glitters’. With themed cocktails, a glitter bar, bold bites and artwork prizes – the night is set to sparkle.

MCA Social is presented the MCA Young Ambassadors, a supporter program which is exclusively available to those aged 18 to 40. Young Ambassadors enjoy a dynamic program of behind-the-scenes art-based events at the MCA and other venues across Australia, while supporting the Museum’s work philanthropically. Funds raised from the night contribute to the Museum’s annual exhibition for Australian artists aged 35 years and under, Primavera.

Sydney party-maestros Anna May Kirk and Nerida Ross have curated live performances and music to the theme. Artist Bhenji Ra will strike a pose in a vogueing performance to sultry tunes of DJ Luen. Dance music act, The Possé, will play disco, house and funk music, with DJ Ariane spinning late into the evening.

Against a backdrop of iconic Sydney Harbour views, expect to rub shoulders with MCA Young Ambassadors including: Olivia & Jeremy Bond, Eleanor Cheetham, Emilya Colliver, Marc Freeman, Emma Lung, Amanda Maple-Brown, Samuel McGuinness, Michael Sirmai, Bianca Spender, Hamish Tame, Sam & Dan White and Henry Zalapa.

Prizes on the night will ensure that some of the lucky guests will bask in the glow of glitz and glam long after the event. Prizes include: limited edition prints by renowned Australian artists Lindy Lee and Imants Tillers, three Tiffany & Co. pieces designed by Elsa Peretti and much more.

MCA Social is on Saturday 24 September, from 8pm ‘til late at the MCA’s Harbourside Room. Tickets are $110 for MCA Young Ambassadors and $130 General Admission and are available on the MCA website.

Dress code: Glitter, Glam, Fierce and Fabulous.

ABOUT MCA YOUNG AMBASSADORS

MCA Social is presented by the MCA Young Ambassadors, a supporter program which is exclusively available to those aged 18 to 40, and supported by Ray White. They enjoy a dynamic program of behind-the-scenes art-based events at the MCA and other venues across Australia, while supporting the Museum’s work philanthropically.

The generosity of individuals – like the MCA Young Ambassadors – is vital to the Museum which raises over 70% of its funding from non-governmental sources. Their contributions help the MCA to stage exhibitions and programs of excellence, and focus on working with and supporting Australian art and artists. Since 2011, the MCA Young Ambassador program has raised $135,000 through fundraising campaigns and events like MCA Social.
