Once again the façade of the MCA is transformed into a huge canvas on which the energy of the creative process is playfully explored as VIVID takes over Sydney from 27 May until 18 June.
This year the artists create an illusion that the façade is actually being carved, painted, cut and brushed. The installation, developed specifically for Vivid Sydney in collaboration with the MCA, sees Western Sydney artist Huseyin Sami – whose work is part of the MCA Collection – join forces with the Paris-based artistic collective Danny Rose.
Sami’s focus is to explore ideas associated with the material nature of paint and the process of ‘making art’. Danny Rose brilliantly captures Sami’s ‘performance’ in making art by using a wide range of animation techniques, including three-dimensional animations, motion design, stop motion and edited video footage. Sound and music work in perfect synchronicity with the visuals to provide a true multi-sensory experience, creating a constantly morphing contemporary art installation-performance that utterly changes perceptions of the building’s architecture.
Perch on the Sculpture Terrace and enjoy spectacular views of the colour drenched Sydney Harbour. Wind down over a drink and enjoy a bite to eat as we stay open until 9pm during Vivid Sydney*
