– Hope in a Dark Age: Locust Jones

As part of the MCA’s Conversation Starters weekend, don’t miss the opportunity to watch artist Locust Jones create a 5m drawing over 4 hrs, in response to a drip-feed of current news and world affairs footage.

Echoing the media-saturation of contemporary society, Locust explores the different ways of record keeping and unpacking of the current state of affairs through the act of mark making. This raw, physical act of drawing offers a powerful and live translation of the bombardment of news we hear everyday.

About Locust Jones
Locust Jones was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and currently lives and works in the Blue Mountains, Australia. His work is expressive, anxious, and involved with the world’s current events. Described as chaotic and consuming, Jones’ recurring imagery speaks to the theme of questioning human justice and power. Jones holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney (1993) and Master of Visual Arts, (2010).

Jones has participated in many solo and group exhibitions including: I walk the line: New Australian Drawing, Museum of Contemporary Art (2009); A week in the life of the world, Blue Mountains Art Gallery (2015); 24 Hour News Feed, Christchurch Art Gallery, Christchurch, NZ (2014). His works are also held in several important collections in Australia and internationally.
