Sold out: Keynote Lecture: Grayson Perry
– 'How to be an artist just like me'

Sorry this event is sold out!

How do artists self-define and play the art-world game? How do artists negotiate power? Self-belief? Recognition?

Grayson Perry’s first talk in Australia, at the Sydney Opera House, coincides with his exhibition at the MCA and will draw focus to his quest in helping contemporary art in its struggle to be understood and how to navigate the art world, as an artist.

Hear a down-to-earth, often witty first-hand account into the world of an artist continuously challenging preconceptions. Prepare to be captivated as he peels back the complex layers that form his identity, citing the influences and networks that feed into the development and production of his work. Often deeply reflective of his experiences as a transvestite, as well as his childhood and wider social issues such as class, sex and religion, this one-off talk will give you a unique insight into how to be an artist in today’s often challenging world.

Grayson Perry: My Pretty Little Art Career will take place at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia from December 10, 2015 to May 1, 2016 as part of the Sydney International Art Series (Presenting Partner: Citi)
