Germaine Kruip
– A Square, Spoken at MCA

20th Biennale of Sydney Program

This one-on-one 20 minutes performance is drawn from historical quotes around ‘the square’ by artists, scientists and historians, including: Kazimir Malevich, Josef Albers, Carl Jung, Claes Oldenburg, Galileo Galilei, Ad Reinhardt, Lygia Pape and Chinese proverbs. In the process, A Square, Spoken re-visits and re-contextualises historical and art historical shifts in understandings of the square, as a form and concept, as well as the new meanings it has acquired over time.

Weekends, 19 March–5 June
Every 30 mins between 12noon–5pm
FREE, bookings required
Meet at MCA Front of House desk, Level 1 Foyer

For bookings please contact the MCA’s Front of House team by foh@mca.com.au
Bookings are also available in person at the Museum.

We strongly recommend booking in advance for these popular intimate one-on-one performances.

About Germaine Kruip
In her work, artist Germaine Kruip brings out both tensions and connections between formal abstraction and spiritual traditions. With a background in theatre and scenography, Kruip examines techniques of staging such as light, sound, duration and isolation. With a predilection for ephemeral objects such as light or fleeting experiences of time, she turns her artworks into performative agents that provoke a new understanding of space and time and how we move through it.

This performance is also offered on Cockatoo Island during weekdays only. For more information on how to sign up for the Cockatoo Island performance, see more information here: http://www.biennaleofsydney.com.au/20bos/events/germaine-kruip-a-square-spoken-on-cockatoo-island/
