Participate in a hands-on workshop led by artist and curator Léuli Eshraghi. Eshraghi’s writing practice, as with his artmaking and curating, is centred on the resurgence of Indigenous languages and sovereign embodied practices in the Moananui region (eastern Indonesia, Australia, Oceania), and beyond.

In this workshop, Léuli Eshraghi will lead exercises and discussions exploring multiple strategies for writing critical texts with different registers, including layering texts with multiple languages.

All levels of experience welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring a draft of current writing.

About Léuli Eshraghi

Léuli Eshraghi is a Sāmoan and Persian artist, curator and PhD candidate at Monash University Art Design and Architecture (MADA). His practice is centred on indigeneity, language, body sovereignty, and queer possibility. He has exhibited in Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and the United States. Highlights include The Bill: For Collective Unconscious at Artspace NZ and Future Archaeology at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art.

Eshraghi’s writing is published in Artlink, Peril Magazine, Overland, Writing From Below journal, #500words (Aotearoa New Zealand), Open Engagement (United States), and Stella Magazine (Papua New Guinea). He holds qualifications in Indigenous Arts Management and Cultural Studies, was Editor of the Contemporary Pacific Arts Festival’s Oceania Now publication, and has recently presented at the Indigenous Contemporary Art Summit at the Banff Centre, and the Pacific Arts Association’s International Symposium at Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland Museum. He is the Gertrude Contemporary-Next Wave Emerging Curator, with the focus bilingual exhibition Ua numi le fau being staged during the Next Wave Festival in May 2016.
