Special Event

ARTBAR 2016 (1st April)
– Curated by The Motel Sisters

“ Face With Tears of Joy Emoji “

Come and be truly #ontrend and #blessed. Expect hot chicks and cars, cheap celebrity antics, colouring-in for calm, subversive drag, a plethora of LOLCats and a feverishly hot, emoji-filled dreamscape. MCA ARTBAR promises a vaudeville comedy of inflated ego proportions – exploring #white privilege with the Bogan Queen Schapelle Scragg, car airbrush painting from Penrith and so much more! You will certainly leave with a 'Face with tears of joy’ when The Motel Sisters curate #MCAARTBAR.

ARTBAR happens after dark every month. Exhibitions, music, and performance come together under the direction of a guest curator, transforming the MCA into a pulsating piece of performance art.

About the curators

The Motel Sisters are two Sydney based artists, Naomi Oliver, and Liam Benson, they create and perform as their characters, Paris and Tacky Motel.
The Motel Sisters parody popular culture, suburbia and contemporary art. The characters are loosely based on over-media-saturated socialites such as Paris Hilton. Mixed with this pink-clad celebrity stereotype are the qualities of the aspiring suburban teen, including the influence of consumer fashion trends, identity angst and the superficial unrequited desire to be famous.

The Motel Sisters have evolved from their earlier focus on parodying popular culture, to pushing the boundaries of a digital and performance based practice.
