Around a Small Mountain

Year- 2009
Director- Jacques Rivette
Running Time- 1 hr, 24 mins
Rated- M

After a chance encounter with Kate (Jane Birkin), a former circus performer who is unable to return to form due to an unspoken trauma, Vittorio (Sergio Castellitto) is instantly smitten. Drawn to uncover the mystery and hidden past of both Kate and the circus, Vittorio’s attempts to delve into the unknown territory of stage lead to a series of role-playing that will prompt profound revelation.

Jacques Rivette’s final film examines the subject that fascinated him endlessly: the theatre. As the jigsaw puzzle of Kate’s past is assembled, the circus becomes a mystical space where memory and the present collide, offering a chance for redemption and resurrection. This is a divine conclusion to the master’s career, as every character and every encounter gather in the circus’ ring for a final resolution.
