Patricia PICCININI & Peter HENNESSEY

Patricia Piccinini born, 1965, Freetown, Sierra Leone. Lives and works Melbourne.
Peter Hennessey born, 1968, Sydney. Lives and works Melbourne

Patricia Piccinini and Peter Hennessey explore ideas of secret societies, parallel worlds, genetic modification, evolution and mutation in their new collaborative work Alone with the gods (2016). Designed to be an ‘immersive narrative space’ the installation is based on a story the artists wrote about a fictional isolationist cult.

Read the story behind Alone With The Gods here

This cult developed in response to cheap and easily accessible genetic modification technologies that allowed anyone to create hybrid beings by combining parts of humans, plants and animals with non-living things. A video tells the story of the cult’s eventual demise, focusing on the cult leader’s daughter and her legendary skills in designing new lifeforms.
