Robert Rooney

b.1937 :

Robert Rooney born in 1937 in Melbourne, is a Melbourne-based art critic, painter and photographer and a key proponent of Conceptual Art in Australia. Rooney’s work featured in the seminal exhibition The Field at the National Gallery of Victoria and the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 1968. Subsequent exhibitions have included Endless Present: Robert Rooney and Conceptual Art, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne,2010; Play, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, 2012; Cubism and Australian Art, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne, 2009; 1968, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, 1995; and The Readymade Boomerang: Certain Relations in 20th Century Art, The 8th Biennale of Sydney, Sydney, 1990.

His work is held in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide; Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth; Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane and Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Sydney.
