Tony Clark

Born 1954, Canberra. Lives and works Sicily, Italy and Essen, Germany.


Tony Clark began exhibiting in Melbourne where he was immersed in the city’s experimental art and music scene. He has an ongoing interest in landscape and the history of style and taste.

In a career spanning four decades Clark has exhibited extensively, both nationally and internationally. A major retrospective of his work, Tony Clark – Public and Private Paintings 1982–1998, was held at Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne in 1998. In 1992 he was included in the prestigious Documenta IX in Kassel, Germany.

Recent solo exhibitions include Jesus, Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney (2014); Buehenbilder, Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney (2012); Sections from Clark’s Myriorama, Murray White Room, Melbourne (2012); Shakespeare, Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney (2011); Tony Clark, Murray White Room, Melbourne (2009); Tony Clark, Murray White Room, Melbourne (2008); and Prix de Rome, Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney (2008).

His work is included in numerous public collections in Australia, including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; National Portrait Gallery, Canberra; Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; and National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.
