Blog – How to make the most of your trip to the MCA

Posted on Aug. 9, 2017 by Leah Dobihal in Art Encounters.

Maybe you’re an MCA regular, or perhaps you haven’t yet stepped through the doors. Here, it doesn’t matter whether you consider yourself an art connoisseur or a complete novice—the art is here for everyone to enjoy. If you want to learn and connect with the art more deeply, there are plenty of resources that will enhance your experience and help you get the most out of your visit.

Download the app

The MCA app is your one-stop-shop for extra information that will help you connect with contemporary art on a deeper level. Listen to curator and artist talks, find gallery guides or discover more about current and upcoming exhibitions.

Pop along for a free tour

If you’re feeling a little lost, a gallery tour is the perfect place to start. The MCA offers free guided tours of our galleries so you can learn more about the artwork and make sure you don’t miss a thing during your visit.

Check out the Resource Rooms

The Resource Rooms in the galleries are full of information that will guide you in your experience of contemporary art. If you’d like to understand the artwork more deeply before experiencing them in person, then make this your first stop.

Sign up for a Kids and Families program

No matter your age, there are all sorts of programs that will let you connect with contemporary art at the MCA. If your tot is under one, check out Art Baby, or for older children try Art Safari. These programs will allow kids and carers alike to experience art imaginatively and creatively. Events change each week, so there’s always something new to discover.

Join in with Lights on Later

Each Wednesday, the MCA keeps their lights on later, until 9pm. You can take your time wandering through the exhibitions, or join in on tours and workshops as the sun goes down.

Become a member

If you want the inside scoop at the MCA, then consider becoming a member. With your membership, you’ll enjoy unlimited free entry to our ticketed exhibitions, as well as discounts to unique events, artist talks and more. With access to all that, you’ll be making the most of each and every trip to the museum.

You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy contemporary art. And with plenty of resources available, you’ll find each trip to the MCA more rewarding and immersive than you thought possible.
