Heading our line-up of local labels available on the evening is Studio Elke, directed by established Sydney jewellery designer Elke Kramer. Renowned for her innovative and signature use of resin and eclectic, architectural styles, Elke’s current range is inspired by the colours and textures of the Australian landscape and created using a bespoke palette of resin finishes incorporating unconventional materials like charcoal, crushed sea shells and concrete.
Similarly drawn to the Australian landscape is Christophe Hoppe, creative director of luxury watch brand Bausele. With a wealth of watchmaking knowledge and experience which he is happy to share, Hoppe’s contemporary designs combine the highest quality Swiss construction with a rugged aesthetic inspired by the elements. Each timepiece – literally – holds a unique piece of Australia in the signature crown, from red earth from the outback to grains of sand from the coastline.
Sharing Bausele’s passion for quality design and detailing is the Sydney based team behind Toffee, whose stylish range of canvas and leather bags, laptop and iPhone sleeves have fast gained a loyal following. They’ll be chatting about forthcoming collections and their current Artist Series of limited-edition leather sleeves featuring exclusive lining designed by popular artist Beastman.
Two designers producing stylish items as the result of artist collaborations are Colab and Skarfe. Colab have worked with the likes of Anthony Lister, Reko Rennie and Elke Kramer to create quirky sunglasses, while Skarfe have most recently teamed up with MCA Collection artist Jess Johnson to dream up a series of sumptuous silk scarves good enough to frame.
Rounding off our designer guest list is Amanda Testa, with her debut collection of appliquéd clutch bags. Drawing on her love of textile design and the imagery of 70s Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Orientalism, psychedelia, and stained glass, each bag is locally handmade in strictly limited numbers, using a considered mix of fabrics, layers and embroidery – the perfect combination of luxury and creativity that we are proud to support at MCA Store.
Bridie manages inventory and online operations for MCA Store. A self-confessed book nerd, her personal library is full of fashion photography, feminist theory and trashy celebrity biographies. A practising visual and performing artist she is interested in representations of women in art and popular culture and is a passionate supporter of emerging local artists and designers.
