MCA Publications

We have retired MCA Publications. Please head to www.mca.com.au/apps to download our latest smartphone app.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia is excited to launch the iPad specific application MCA Publications. This app will host the MCA’s digital publications, beginning with the exhibition catalogue Anish Kapoor and The Wandering: Moving images from the MCA Collection.

Anish Kapoor has created some of the most memorable artworks of our times. Since the early 1980s, he has produced bodies of work that push the boundaries of sculpture through an exploration of the nature of perception in relation to space, form and mass.

This award winning publication explores Kapoor’s work through the prism of his exhibition at the MCA. The MCA’s Manager, Digital Media Keir Winesmith describes the publication as a “living catalogue”. The preview version includes video interviews, writing, documentation of exhibited works and behind the scenes footage of Kapoor’s studio. “Crucially,” Winesmith says, “this publication will be updated with interviews, images and videos of one of the most complex installations attempted by the Museum, and then updated again with reflections on the experience of the exhibition itself. It’s three publications rolled into one, made possible by an innovative digital publishing platform and the cooperation of Anish Kapoor’s studio.”

The Wandering: Moving images from the MCA Collection takes us on a unique journey through contemporary Australian art. The immediacy of moving image provides opportunities for art to engage with audiences in ways that are different to static, more traditional mediums, such as painting and sculpture. The exhibition presents artworks recently acquired by the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia by 15 leading artists, Vernon Ah Kee, Peter Alwast, Lauren Brincat, Daniel Crooks, Hayden Fowler, Shaun Gladwell, Richard Lewer, Gabriella Mangano and Silvana Mangano, Todd McMillan, Tracey Moffatt, Patricia Piccinini, Grant Stevens, Daniel von Sturmer and Christian Thompson.
