About the Performance Program
Enjoy live art in many different guises and in several locations in this season of performance, participatory and site-specific art, curated by Performance Space and presented in partnership with the MCA. Featuring six Australian and two UK-based artists, this diverse program promises to surprise, delight, amaze and confound.
Tune into Zoë Walker and Neil Bromwich’s Celestial Radio, a radio station housed on a dazzling sailing boat (covered in 60,000 mirror tiles!), broadcasting a psychedelic hour-long soundwork as she sails around Sydney Harbour. Spy on Val, The Invisible (Julie-Anne Long) – a quietly subversive middle-aged woman enacting the things we do in life that are taken for granted. Gain a new perspective on the current MCA exhibitions by viewing them entirely nude when you join Preceded by a tour of the show by artist Stuart Ringholt 6-8pm (the artist will be naked. Those who wish to join the tour must also be naked. Adults only) – a much-talked about work dealing with themes of fear and embarrassment. Discover the passions, skills and wisdom found outside degrees and day jobs as Lara Thoms presents The Experts Project. Overcome by the beauty or volume of the art around you? Consult Jason Maling who will offer poetic treatments for contemporary anxieties associated with visiting galleries and museums in Physican. Explore the impact of climate change on island communities through i-Land X-isle a large-scale performance installation by Latai Taumoepeau.
See 47 specially-recruited live dachshunds engage in vigorous debate in Dachshund U.N., both a joyful and chaotic experiment and a meditation on the utopian aspirations of the United Nations, created by Bennett Miller.
