Library & Archives
Open to scholars, art students, artists and visitors, the MCA Library provides access to a unique collection of books, catalogues and art journals which reflect the rich exhibition history of the MCA and material related to current exhibitions. This includes contemporary Australian and international artists.
Our library staff offer support in the navigation of this information through reference interviews and search tips.
Orientation sessions and in-depth reference interviews are available by appointment with Librarian Margaret Gor.
The Library’s rich archives include a large collection of MCA exhibition catalogues stretching back to 1991, as well as over 6,000 files of artist-related ephemera, such as letters, rare catalogues, exhibition notes and exhibition invitations.
Because of storage limitations we regret we are unable to accept donations of books, catalogues or journals.

The library is staffed by the MCA Librarian on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
On Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, the library is staffed by volunteers. While our volunteers make every effort to honour their commitments to the library, they may be prevented from doing so due to unforeseeable circumstances. We encourage users to ring the library before they visit on the days that the library is staffed by volunteers.
