Public Engagement Manager (12 month maternity leave contract)

A bold, new and significantly expanded Museum of Contemporary Art was unveiled to the public in March 2012. The redevelopment has transformed the MCA, with spacious new galleries including an entire floor dedicated to the MCA Collection; the National Centre for Creative Learning with state-of-the-art technology; public spaces that embrace one of the world’s most famous locations, and a series of site-specific artists’ commissions. The new MCA responds to its unique location and meets the needs of the Museum, bringing together old and new to create a context for engaging artists with audiences for the 21st century.

Do you have a passion for increasing awareness, understanding and enjoyment of contemporary art? Do you have the ability to spark interest, arouse curiosity and encourage others to learn about art?

As a key member of the Creative Learning Team you’ll be involved in everything from driving the planning and development of world-class programs and events to creating and generating new, dynamic and innovative interpretive public programs relating to the work of living artists. You will also utilise the facilities of the National Centre for Creative Learning to extend the delivery of programs through digital technology and manage a team of program coordinators responsible for the planning and delivery of other public engagement activities including the Kids and Families Program and the Young Creatives Program.

The role calls for a successful track record of devising and implementing high quality programs which inform, excite and engage audiences with visual art, and the ability to monitor and evaluate programs. You will need good leadership skills, outstanding written and verbal communication and public speaking skills with knowledge of technical set up for presentations. Essential to the role is your strong administrative skills with a good level of computer literacy. The position works Tuesday to Saturday and some evenings. You are innovative, flexible and a motivated team player, with a desire to establish the MCA as the leading national institution for contemporary visual arts education. Tertiary education in contemporary visual culture and previous experience marketing/promotion of events is desirable.
