Postgraduate Photography Symposium

Hear Australasian postgraduate candidates present their current or recently completed research projects in the field of photography in a forum that will enable the sharing and discussion of their research. The Symposium will advance dialogue and reflect current thinking and practice in photography.

The Symposium is a collaboration between the MCA and the Photography/Photomedia areas of the College of Fine Arts (University of New South Wales), the National Art School, Sydney College of the Arts (University of Sydney), and the University of Technology, Sydney. It is coordinated by Associate Professor Christopher Stewart (University of Technology, Sydney) and Rebecca Shanahan (The National Art School, Sydney).

Keynote presentations, lunch and refreshments included.

Postgraduate Photography Symposium, Friday 31 August Schedule
Presenters deliver a paper of 15-minutes duration followed by a five-minute question time. The morning and afternoon Q&A panels encourage further in-depth discussion.

9.40 – 10.10am Keynote: Helen Ennis

In her role as an independent curator Helen Ennis works with large public collections of historical and contemporary photographs. She will speak about research as a subjective and creative pursuit and outline some of the key aspects of her process. She will focus on ways in which photographs from the past can be brought into the present.

Helen Ennis is Associate Professor at the ANU School of Art.
