Frequently Asked Questions

What is a zine?

Zines are small circulation, non-commercial publications that are printed by their creators on a topic of their choice. They come in all shapes and sizes from personal zine, artzines, zines about music and politics, fanzines. Zines are straight from the writer to the reader: raw, uncut and handmade. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zine

What is the purpose of a zine fair?

Zine fairs are a great opportunity to sell, trade and talk about zines.

When and where is the event being held?

The event will be held in the MCA Foundation Hall on Sunday 24 May from 11am to 5pm. Don’t be fooled by the buskers surrounding MCA in Circular Quay the Zine Fair will be inside—come on in!

How much does it cost to attend? How much is the entrance fee?

Entrance for the event and the exhibitions in the Museum are FREE.

WE've booked a stall, when can we set up?

The MCA Foundation Hall will be open to stall holders on the day from 10.00–11.00am. And yes, we prefer all stalls to be set up by 11.00am. Tables will be allocated prior to the day, so if you want to be stationed next to another table, please let us know.

I may need electricity at my table, what do I do?

Sorry, no tables will be supplied with electricity. You are more than welcome to bring along your Pedal-A-Watt bicycle to generate electricity for your stall.

Can I sell other items at my stall and is there anything I cannot sell at my stall?

We encourage creativity and you are welcome to sell other items in your stall, from badges to stencil art to crafty nick-nacks. We ask that material does not include any of the following: pornography, nudity, defamation, harassment, commercial advertisements and material encouraging criminal conduct. Keep it clean.

Where do we park?

We encourage public transport. The MCA sits right on Circular Quay and is easily accessible for ferry-trippers, train-riders and bus-hoppers. There is no car parking available at the Museum but you can try your luck with public car parks in the area.

What other programs will there be at the Zine Fair?

We have programmed a jam-packed day of panel discussions and artist talks. Stay tuned for more information from our friends at the Sydney Writer's Festival.

While we are at the Zine Fair, can we visit the exhibitions at MCA?

Yes, we would love you to! The galleries will be open from 10.00am–5.00pm. Our Autumn Season Exhibitions will be on at this time: avoiding myth and message: Australian artists and the literary world, I walk the line: new Australian drawing and Yayoi Kusama: Mirrored Years.
